First was found at Tynron on 15th July 1943 by Sir Arthur Duncan, specimen at National Museums of Scotland.
Other sites: None.

First for Dumfries & Galloway was found in Colvend parish during July 1871 by Francis Buchanan White.
Other sites: Adam's Chair, Auchenshore on Auchencairn Bay, Balcary, Castlemuir Point, Meikle Ross, Portling, Rough Island NTS.

First was found at Portpatrick on 25th August 1990.
Other sites: Cairnhead, Dounan Bay, Dunskey Castle, Garheugh, Port of Counan, Port Kale & Port Mora.
 
Life cycle
Subspecies bellana flies in June and July, while colquhounana appears in May and again in August and September, although we have no May records.
 
Larval foodplants
Subspecies bellana feeds on Sheep's Fescue, while colquhounana feeds on Sea Plantain and Thrift.  
 
Identification
Subspecies colquhounana is browner while f. bellana is paler and more contrasting while .
 
Habitat
Subspecies colquhounana is more coastal while f. bellana is found on inland hilly sites.
 
Recorders' notes
The photo of one at Claymoddie is grey and contrasting but was found at the coast!! All our findings are coastal apart from the Tynron record.
