History
Two were trapped on 9th June 1975 in Kirkmahoe parish (VC72) followed by another two on 30th May 1978 in the same parish by Sir Arthur Duncan.
 
Life cycle
Overwinters as a pupa, in a cocoon below the ground. Larvae appear from late June through July.
 
Larval foodplants
Aspen and Black-poplar.
 
Identification
The dark grey cross-band near the base of the forewing, which is broad and rounded is diagnostic.
 
Habitat
Broadleaved woodland, gardens.
